How to Sync and Update Bookmarks Across Different Browsers

Working with multiple browsers is now the norm. Maybe you use Google Chrome at the office because it's the corporate standard, but at home you prefer Brave for privacy, Microsoft Edge, or Arc Browser. The problem arises when you find a great resource on your work laptop and then can't find it on your home PC.

The Limitation of Native Sync#

Native synchronization systems (like Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync) are incredibly powerful, but they have one major limitation: they are "walled gardens". They don't communicate with each other. If you add a bookmark on Edge, it won't magically appear on Chrome.

The Solution: HTML Export and BDU#

The most universal method to move bookmarks between different ecosystems is using the standard HTML format, which is supported by every existing browser.

Here's how you can create an efficient workflow:

  1. Export Regularly: From your main browser, export your bookmarks to an HTML file and save it to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.
  2. Import to Secondary Browser: When you switch to your other computer or browser, import the HTML file.
  3. Clean and Update: This is where Bookmark Domain Updater (BDU) comes into play. Often, when moving huge archives, you bring along old or broken links. Because BDU is compatible with all Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc), you can install it on all your browsers. After a massive import, use BDU to bulk update old domains to ensure your new workspace only has active and correct links.

A Unified Ecosystem#

You aren't forced to use just one browser to keep your data organized. By using standard HTML files paired with smart extensions like BDU, you can keep your tools sharp and your links always ready to use, no matter what platform you choose today.
